Job Description

As Executive Director, you’ll champion our mission, drive organizational sustainability, andinspire a team of dedicated staff and coaches. This role is ideal for someone who blendsnonprofit leadership experience with a love for outdoor recreation, youth development, andcommunity building. This position will start as an interim position and be part-time with the opportunity for apermanent position based on performance. What You’ll Do: Lead the organization with vision and strategy aligned to BEA’s mission. Oversee program delivery in climbing, biking, and Nordic skiing -ensuring safety, inclusion, and quality. Manage a talented staff, foster a supportive culture, and drive performance. Spearhead fundraising initiatives: sponsorships, donor relations, grants, and events. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure governance and financial health. Represent BEA in the community, forming partnerships and advocating for youth accessto outdoor recreation. Oversee risk management, safety compliance, and operational excellence. What We’re Looking For: Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, outdoor recreation, youth sports, or a related field. Strong fundraising, budgeting, and financial management skills. Exceptional communicator and relationship-builder with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated success in team leadership and staff development. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth empowerment. Bonus: Experience in grant writing, marketing, or outdoor program development. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the strategic growth and development of BEA in alignment with its mission, strategic priorities, and financial goals. The ED oversees program profitability, organizational sustainability, and community engagement while acting as the primary relationship manager for stakeholders, including participants, parents, community partners, sponsors, donors, and the Board. The ED also leads fundraising efforts and event management, ensuring that special eventssupport BEA’s financial health and community presence. Through effective leadership, the EDfosters a collaborative, ethical, and professional culture among staff, promoting best-in-classyouth programming and operational excellence. 1. Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Implement the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term goals.
  • Develop strategic plans to expand and enhance youth participation, equity, and outdooraccess.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and community impact regularly.
2. Fundraising & Financial Management
  • Lead fundraising efforts including sponsorships, donor development, and events. Grantwriting experience a plus.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the board.
  • Ensure financial sustainability and compliance with nonprofit fiscal responsibilities.
3. Program Oversight
  • Oversee development and delivery of climbing, mountain biking, and nordic skiprograms.
  • Ensure programs are safe, inclusive, age-appropriate, and aligned with the mission.
  • Track and report program outcomes and participant feedback for continuousimprovement.
4. Staff & Volunteer Management
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff and coaches.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive team culture aligned with organizational values.
  • Implement clear performance expectations, evaluations, and professional development.
5. Community & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as the public face of the organization.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, youth organizations, local governments,and sponsors.
  • Promote community involvement and advocate for access to outdoor recreation foryouth.
6. Board Relations & Governance
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set goals, policies, and oversight mechanisms.
  • Provide regular updates and ensure alignment between board strategy and daily operations.
  • Support board development and recruit new members as needed.
7. Risk Management & Safety Oversight
  • Ensure all programs meet safety standards and comply with liability insurance and legalrequirements.
  • Establish and review risk management policies specific to outdoor and adventure-basedactivities.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and incident response protocols.
8. Marketing & Outreach
  • Oversee branding, marketing strategies, and digital communication.
  • Promote programs through social media, newsletters, events, and partnerships.
  • Increase visibility and build the organization’s reputation in the outdoor and nonprofit sectors.
